Philippine telecommunications operator PLDT plans to provide fiber connections to more new homes in the country. By the end of 2023, PLDT’s home broadband division continued to lead the Philippine broadband market with 3.2 million users. In 2023, PLDT’s fiber-to-the-home business generated revenue of $925 million (53 billion Philippine pesos), a 9% increase compared to the previous year, accounting for 50.6% of total FTTH business revenue in the Philippines. In the same year, the average contribution per user for PLDT’s home broadband business was $26, an 11% increase compared to the previous year, with a user churn rate of 1.8%, lower than the industry average of 2%.
Jeremiah de la Cruz, head of PLDT’s home broadband business, stated that in 2024 they will accelerate the deployment of fiber to new homes and continue to lead the market. By providing fiber connections to more underserved areas, PLDT hopes to achieve nationwide coverage of fiber-to-the-home services.
In February of this year, PLDT launched ultra-high bandwidth broadband services targeting high-end customers. The latest fiber broadband plans offered by PLDT provide bandwidth at least 100Mbps higher than the industry average. Currently, PLDT’s prices for gigabit, 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps, and 10Gbps bandwidth range from $131 to $874 per month. In addition to basic broadband services, packages also include Wi-Fi6 Mesh networking, IPTV, network security, and other services.
As of the end of September 2023, PLDT has 1.1 million kilometers of fiber optic cable, including 200,000 international routes. Next year, the 12,000-kilometer Apricot submarine cable project that PLDT is involved in will be completed. This cable connects the Philippines to Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Guam, and Taiwan.
